The Secret to Long-Lasting Hardscapes
A patio is only as good as the base it sits on. Cutting corners on your gravel base will inevitably lead to settling, rutting, and callbacks.
Our calculator assumes a standard compaction rate. When ordering Modified Stone (3/4" minus) or dense grade aggregate, 1 cubic yard equals approximately 1.4 tons after compaction.
Depth Requirements
- Walkways: 4 inches of compacted base is sufficient for foot traffic.
- Patios: 6 inches of compacted base is the industry standard for patios, entertaining spaces, and fire pits.
- Driveways: 10 to 12 inches is required to support the weight of vehicular traffic without settling.
Always extend your base 6 inches past the perimeter of your pavers to ensure proper edge restraint stability!
